Strategic Freight Research Projects
Prior to the release of the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act (FAST Act), the five-year reauthorization of the federal surface transportation program, Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) developed a 25-year Long Range Transportation Policy Plan, a Freight Plan, 10-year Strategic Investment Plan, and a Passenger Rail Reform and Investment Act (PRIAA) compliant plan, all of which had some freight components. With the late 2015 release of the FAST Act, TDOT must determine the impact new legislation has on its previous work and how to translate those efforts to plan, develop and implement cost effective and sustainable freight projects. TDOT is interested in conducting research projects that engage not only Department leadership, but also actively include Tennessee’s Freight Advisory Committees (FAC), planning partners and other states impacted by our decisions.
