Interstate 24
Montgomery CountyThe Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) plans to widen Interstate 24 in Montgomery County, from State Route 48 (Exit 1, near the Kentucky state line) to State Route 76 (Exit 11) The project, which will widen I-24 from the current four-lane section to six lanes across an 11.63-mile footprint, is intended to address current and anticipated future congestion along the I-24 corridor. To reduce the time, cost to complete, and impact of the project, all construction is planned to occur to the inside of existing lanes (i.e., toward the median) and to involve minimal, if any, right-of-way impacts.
Current Status: Preliminary engineering will begin in 2027.
Estimated construction start: This project is scheduled in TDOT’s 10-Year Project Plan to begin construction in Fiscal Year 2033.
Estimated completion*: TBD
Funding Type: TDOT anticipates that a portion of this project will be funded through the Transportation Modernization Fund.
