Interstate 40 Interchange at State Route 299
Cumberland County
The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) plans to construct improvements to the Interstate 40 Interchange at State Route 299. The project will consist of intersection and operational improvements on SR 299 (Exit 338), including replacing the bridge and widening SR 299 within the interchange and improving sight distances to and from the interstate ramps. Other improvements, including turn lanes, intersection controls, modifications to entrance and exit ramps, and inclusion of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and lighting components, will be determined when the project is fully scoped.
Current Status: The project is under development. Preliminary engineering is underway.
Estimated construction start: This project is scheduled in TDOT’s 10-Year Project Plan to begin construction in Fiscal Year 2029.

Funding Type: TDOT anticipates that this project will be funded in part through the Transportation Modernization Fund.

History and Background
This project is intended to modernize the interchange and improve operational characteristics in anticipation of growth in regional traffic volumes.
