Cancer: Thriving and Surviving
A Six-Week Workshop
Cancer: Thriving and Surviving (CTS) is a six-week workshop that provides tools for living a healthy life affected by cancer. Through weekly sessions, the workshop provides support for continuing normal daily activities and dealing with the emotions that cancer may bring about. Self-Management programs supported by the Tennessee Department of Health and UT Extension include the Living Well with Chronic Conditions workshop for people with physical or mental health problems, the Take Charge of Your Diabetes program, a workshop for people with diabetes, and Cancer: Thriving and Surviving workshop for those affected by cancer.
Cancer: Thriving and Surviving workshops are now available in many counties in Tennessee.
There are more than three hundred (300) certified Self-Management Leaders for the Living Well with Chronic Conditions and Take Charge of Your Diabetes programs. Cancer: Thriving and Surviving has ninety-one (91) leaders as of June 2017.
All Leaders and Master Trainers must complete a full 4-day training to become certified as a Leader.
Participants must attend the full training and facilitate a program to become a Leader. Two trained Leaders are required to lead all self-management programs.
The Tennessee Cancer: Thriving and Surviving Program has a variety of resources for local Cancer Self-Management programs, including an Implementation Guide, marketing and recruitment resources, quality assurance and fidelity monitoring tools, presentations, and data collection forms.
