Proposed DOE Environmental Management Disposal Facility (Oak Ridge, TN)
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Oak Ridge Office of Environmental Management (OREM) wants to build a new landfill to dispose of their radioactive, hazardous, and toxic wastes in Oak Ridge. They are running out of available space at their current landfill, the Environmental Management Waste Management Facility (EMWMF). DOE seeks approval for the new landfill under CERCLA regulations just like the EMWMF. DOE calls the proposed new landfill the “Environmental Management Disposal Facility” or “EMDF”.
ACC Landfill (Mt. Pleasant, TN)
The ACC Landfill Site is located on an approximately 48.02-acre parcel of land located on Arrow Mines Road south of the City of Mt. Pleasant in Maury County, Tennessee. The ACC Landfill is a closed Class II (industrial) solid waste disposal facility that was used for the disposal of aluminum recycling wastes from the Smelter Service Corporation. The disposed wastes consist of “salt cake” slag and bag-house dusts from Smelter Service’s aluminum smelting operations. Former Monsanto Chemical Company (Maury County, TN)
The Monsanto Chemical Company site in Maury County is located approximately five miles northwest of downtown Columbia, Tennessee between the Duck River and Williamsport Highway (State Route 50). The past use of the site by the Monsanto Chemical Company resulted in the properties associated with the site to have issues related to contamination by hazardous substances.
