English as a Second Language (ESL)

If you are interested in learning English as a Second Language (ESL), please see the right column (IELCE Programs) for local programs in order to find the county closest to you, and contact your corresponding local program for more information on classes, virtual options, locations, post-secondary information, funding information, HiSET testing, and more.

Connecting with local office

Once you connect with your local office, they will work with you to set up an appointment to attend orientation and register. At orientation, you will take an assessment to determine at which level you will begin classes. Classes are available during the day, at night, and on the weekend depending on location, as well as offered virtually (online). Each student will work at his or her own pace and will take the HiSET test when he or she is ready.
